Pocketbook technology!

I've been fascinated by technology for years - even went to the extent of making it a point to tell all and sundry via my TV program that they should invest in technology to manage their lives. Somehow of late I'm beginning to feel like I've been had by all those companies that have been touting their technologies a la Microsoft, Intel, Palm, Nokia, Motorola et al.

When the first Palm Pilot hit the markets back in the mid nineties I went on air talking about the huge sense it made to put all your info into it and make it your veritable personal secretary. Then came the cell phone and soon it wasn't just me who wondered why they don't integrate the cellphone with the PDA and voila there you are the Palm Treo or the Nokia E series is in your face! Before long you realise that you are perhaps married to one company or the other because your data cannot easily be moved around between the products of these various companies! When you do find a way to move your data between these products along comes a third company with a 'more functional' product and you find you need to invent yet another way to move around your data if you fancy that new device!

First it was all about you and your life having to be PC-centric and suddenly it seems like that doesnt make sense anymore and you need to become Mobile phone-centric! Its all getting to be an overload for my already overloaded, aging noggin! Truth be told I'm beginning to think that the old pocket notebook that our fathers kept is perhaps the most functional of way to keep your memos and personal data - theres no need to worry about your battery running out or an internet outage or even a signal problem - its all there when you need it, right there in your little pocket book. Whats perhaps most impressive about the good old pocket book is that you'll never have to worry about having to upgrade from version 2.6 to version 3.0!! All hail the humble pocket book!!
